#1. SVB Depositors, Investors Tried to Pull $42 Billion Thursday
Investors and depositors tried to pull $42 billion from Silicon Valley Bank on Thursday in one of the biggest US bank runs in more than a decade, according to a Friday regulatory filing. At the close of business on March 9, the bank had a negative cash balance of $958 million, according to an order taking possession of the bank filed Friday by California’s bank regulator, the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation.
The order shines light on the scale of the bank run faced by the lender, which was placed into Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. receivership by the state regulator. The scale of attempted withdrawals was so large that the bank ran out of cash and ways to get it. When the Federal Reserve sent its cash letter — a list of checks and other transactions for the bank to process – to SVB, it failed to pull together enough currency to meet it, according to the California regulator. “Despite attempts from the bank, with the assistance of regulators, to transfer collateral from various sources, the bank did not meet its cash letter with the Federal Reserve,” the order from Commissioner Clothilde Hewlett said.

#2. Le secteur académique se prépare au plan Deeptech
12 octobre 2021, le Président de la République annonce le plan de relance économique France 2030. 2,5 milliards d’euros sont engagés pour favoriser l’investissement dans les Deeptech. Depuis, un fonds d’investissement national de 500 millions d’euros a vu le jour début 2023 pour faire le lien entre la recherche académique et les marchés économiques. L’objectif ? Développer et porter des technologies françaises pour retrouver une souveraineté numérique et technologique. Mais, pour préparer au mieux ce plan, il faut avant tout offrir un cadre favorable aux startups qui sont prêtes à prendre le risque de l’industrialisation.
Pour cela, une série d’obstacles doivent être levés, dont l’accès aux sources de financement et de recrutement. Car, pour accompagner la croissance des startups Deeptech, les entrepreneurs devront travailler main dans la main avec des scientifiques et ingénieurs pluridisciplinaires, capables d’organiser et de piloter le développement de technologies complexes et la conception de nouveaux produits innovants.

On Tuesday, Salesforce announced that it has teamed up with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT’s advanced AI technology to its Slack platform. The ChatGPT app for Slack will optimize how professionals communicate with each other and help them save a precious business resource — time. The app, built by OpenAI on the Slack platform, will include various features to help speed up the message writing and reading process for users.
Slack users will be able to harness the writing capabilities ChatGPT has become known for to access AI assistance to draft messages in seconds. Users will also be able to get caught up with their latest conversations at the click of a button with an AI-generated custom summary. The summaries will be available for both channels and threads, to stay informed on the go.

#4. Les chiffres à découvrir sur la place des femmes dans l’économie française
En 2023, cette journée international des droits de la femme s’intitule : “Pour un monde digital inclusif : innovation et technologies pour l’égalité des sexes” . Cette célébration annuelle est l’opportunité de faire le point sur la place des femmes dans l’entrepreneuriat en France. Se lancent-elles dans la création d’entreprise sur le territoire national ? A l’heure où la parité est au cœur de toutes les attentions au sein des entreprises françaises, qu’en est-il des femmes et de l’accès à la création d’entreprise ? Découverte de l’entrepreneuriat féminin ou les initiatives de création de valeur et de développement économique incarnées par les femmes.
L’entrepreneuriat est donc de plus en plus plébiscité par les femmes, qui osent se lancer dans la création d’entreprise. The BBC has decided not to broadcast an episode of Sir David Attenborough’s flagship new series on British wildlife because of fears its themes of the destruction of nature would risk a backlash from Tory politicians and the rightwing press, the Guardian has been told.
The decision has angered the programme-makers and some insiders at the BBC, who fear the corporation has bowed to pressure from lobbying groups with “dinosaurian ways”. The BBC strongly denied this was the case and insisted the episode in question was never intended for broadcast. Attenborough’s highly anticipated new series, Wild Isles, looks at the beauty of nature in the British Isles.

#6. From grey to green: unique farm on top of car park proposed for Birmingham
Plans have been submitted to create a first-of-its-kind urban farm on top of a multi-storey car park in Birmingham as part of a vision to “turn grey space to green productive space”. Slow Food Birmingham, a grassroots organisation that promotes hyperlocal food production, has sent proposals to the council to build a farm, glasshouses, community space and garden, as well as an education hub and cafe on the site. The farm will provide fresh locally grown food for Birmingham residents, it said, while promoting sustainable agriculture and reducing carbon emissions.
Slow Food, a global organisation founded in 1989, works to preserve local food cultures and traditions, counteract the rise of fast food and boost people’s interest in what they eat and where it comes from. Slow Food Birmingham said its initiative would help local hospitality businesses reduce their environmental impact and financial costs, as well as reducing the cost of grocery shopping for nearby residents. “We’ve already had interest from outside Birmingham as to what we’re doing and wondering how soon we can teach people how to replicate what we’ve designed,” said Smith. “Ultimately, we want to be able to teach other people how to do this.”
