European Mobility Week: Let’s get moving with the planet!

European Mobility Week is on!!! For 7 days, citizens, companies and communities across Europe are encouraged to use more environmentally friendly, healthier modes of travel and offer everyone a right to transportation.
Bicycles, streetcars, metro, buses, trains, coaches, rollerblades, carpooling, sailboats, canoes, paddleboards, skates, hybrid and electric vehicles and even walking are all part of the celebration.

This year, the focus is on intermodality. Or how to combine modes of transport to reach your destination while reducing your carbon footprint.

At StoriesOut, the approach of this event gave us the opportunity to tell our big and small transportation stories, to discuss new trends in mobility and even to debate about the future of daily travel. And as we are generous at the agency, we decided to share our transportation-routines with you 🙂

Be careful of the closing doors, fasten your seatbelts, here we go!

Mobility… rural

“I now live in Burgundy, 140 km from the capital. I go to the office twice a week and work remotely the rest of the time.

Mobility in the countryside is a sport 🙂

In my village (197 inhabitants), no bus or coach passes. To get to the nearest train station, I take my own car (22km). There, 4 *FREE* parking lots allow me to leave my car with peace of mind to take the TER that takes me to the Paris Bercy train station (which I discovered when I moved :-D).

I finish my journey on foot (25 minutes) to arrive at the agency.
Total return journey 4h30 at each “rotation” – The countryside, it’s worth it :-D”

Anne

Still closer!
“Sustainable mobility does not only mean cycling, train or public transport, it can also be pedestrian, in other words simply walking.

I’m lucky, but… only 15 minutes walk from my apartment to the office! Having always been a great walker, and after having passed my driving test 4 times, fate allows me to walk to the office.

It’s not for everyone, but this daily luxury allows me to watch neighborhood life awaken, run into neighborhood regulars and most importantly stay active (Goal: 10,000 steps per day ) while having a slightly smaller carbon footprint.”

Alice

Get on your bike!
“With the end of the summer holidays, everyone has returned to Paris and the metro is full. A Monday morning crammed into a crowded subway car was too much. I decided to dust off my helmet and take a Vélib. When I moved to Paris, I was too afraid to ride a bike. In London, where I used to live, the number of serious accidents is high. Since Paris has invested in bike lanes, it’s so easy. The city has really changed for the better. It takes me 25 minutes to get to the office, I can see the city waking up and I feel invigorated.”

Lindsey

Paris and its métro
“I live in the 18th arrondissement of Paris and every morning I join the majority of Parisians in the metro to go to the office 3 times a week.

I take the 12 and its old and smelly carriages then the 8, more modern to arrive at Ledru Rollin.

A course that takes me about 45 min if all goes well, it allows me to get my reading done.

No regrets, I love my neighborhood and I’m always happy to come home.

I’m a Parisian so the metro and its vagaries have been a given for a long time. There’s no point in complaining, you have to take it easy.”

Marie

Ready to scoot!
“For the last 2 years, I have been using electric scooters for rent in the streets of Paris. No jealousy, I have downloaded the 3 applications in service, and I switch from one brand to another according to my mood.
For me, every trip is considered from the scooter angle: when I have a client meeting, I think scooter, when I go to the office I think scooter, when I go to a trade show I think scooter, when I go to see friends I think scooter, when I go to an exhibition I think scooter and when I go to have a drink at the end of my street … well, I go on foot like everyone else 😉

I take advantage of my trips to observe activities, fashions, habits … a daily pulse of the city and my fellow human beings.

I hear and understand the many debates surrounding scooters but I will tell you that there is no such thing as a bad scooter only irresponsible users.”
