Age verification of Internet users, the new Eldorado for companies?
“On the Internet, no one knows you’re a dog.” This famous caption of a cartoon published in 1993 still illustrates the difficulty of verifying the age of Internet users, but legislative and technical advances aimed at protecting children are now drawing the outlines of a promising market, particularly in Europe. In France, the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel (CSA) recently gave formal notice to five of the most visited pornographic sites to find a solution within two weeks to prohibit their access to minors, under penalty of being blocked.
