PR anecdotes from the StoriesOut team #1

In 2014, I managed the PR of a new French player in Big Data, a technology that was still nebulous for many journalists.

The day is drawing to a close and the phone rings. It’s a journalist from Les Echos.

I smile.

He’s calling to explain to me why he won’t be covering the Big Data topic I’d suggested the day before.

I’m not smiling anymore. 

“They pay me to understand, then our readers buy our newspaper to understand. But I don’t think I’m up to speed with this new technology”, he says.

At StoriesOut we don’t give up!

So here I go, praising my client’s talent as a speaker and educator: “If there is one person in France capable of popularizing the discipline, making it accessible and explaining how this technology will change our daily lives in the months to come… it’s him, the Rockstar of Big Data, invited to speak about this subject at the largest IT conferences in Europe ….. “.

I catch my breath, I reassure myself that my words were not even exaggerated and I wait for a reaction from the journalist..

“Well young man, you can go brag to your client that you managed to change my mind. I’m ready to give him a chance, but I can’t guarantee you an article!”

The interview took place and was as much a success  as the reporter’s article.

The journalist became one of my most privileged contacts, and my client, a unicorn!
